This is called "gruel" because it looks like prison food, but it sure doesn't taste like it. Bring this to any party and the kids will love it, and as soon as the adults ask their kids for a bite, they'll love it too. I ran a test and 17/17 kids that tried this the last time I made it loved it (and all their parents). So there you go.
Prep:
1. Crush 2 packs of oreos 28ishoz.
2. Let butter and cream cheese come to room temperature.
3. Put the cool whip in the fridge, not the freezer.
Put 2 packs of crushed Oreo's in a bowl and ladle in a creme of pudding thinned with milk, and cream cheese icing.
Directions:
1. make 2 packs of vanilla pudding and gradually whisk so there are no lumps and the powder is not clumpy and is evenly distributed (not that big of a deal).
2. Make a standard cream cheese icing with 1/4 cup of butter (16tbs in a cup, 1 stick = 8tbs/ 1/2 cup, ergo 1/2 stick of butter) and 1 8oz rectangle of Philadelphia cream cheese. Mix the two when they are soft and when combined add 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 cup of icing sugar (Also called powdered sugar [I say icing because when French people say "powdered sugar" it sounds like pearl sugar which is different]).
3. Put the pudding in a big (metal works best) bowl and slowly dilute with milk as you whisk. When the pudding/milk becomes thick from the pudding but wont clump up the whisk (it takes about 2 cups of milk) is the consistency you want.
4. Ladle in some of the pudding/milk to the icing to thin it out, and then gradually add to the pudding/milk. when the icing and the pudding/milk are combined, and add an 8oz tub of cool whip to finish making the creme.
5. Ladle the creme into a bowl and add the crushed oreeos on top. when the creme is mostly covered ladle on another layer. When the creme runs out (usually before the oreos) sprinkle more oreos on top as a garnish. Keep refrigerated before serving (overnight is fine) and enjoy!
Notes:
Once you make this a couple times, you will know how many oreos to put in and how much sauce to ladle in (If you have a lot of oreos at the end, add more per layer next time, and if there isnt any sauce left, then the bowl might be too big (so buy a third pack of oreos) or use less sauce per layer. I have never put all of the oreos in the bowl and then poured the sauce over it, but if you are crunched for time it probably will work. Don't put in the freezer. Once I made this for New Year's and put it outside on the porch which was freezing temperatures, but it was like 30F or -1C, but a freezer is like 1F or -17C which froze it sold. So don't put it in the freezer; it will not come out like ice cream.
